Aiming a Blowgun
One procedure in aiming a Blowgun is looking and focusing on your targets bullseye with both eyes open. You should see two ghost images of your blowgun barrel, one barrel will be to the left, and one barrel to the right of your focused target. At this point move your barrel slightly until your focused target is in the middle of these two ghost images and then fire. Practice of this procedure will yield better accuracy.

Loading a Blowgun
One thing I've seen frequently especially among beginning Blowgun enthusiasts is when they load their Blowgun they have there muzzle pointing downward. (That is the opposite end of the Blowgun in which you blow from). They load their Blowgun and shoot. This is more common with the longer barrels. The results of this procedure is that their projectile is 1/2 or 3/4 down the barrel or even lying on the ground in front of them before they shoot. Sometimes humorous to the bystander, May be frustrating to the blowgun user. One procedure in loading a Blowgun is pointing your muzzle upward. Loading your projectile into the safety mouthpiece (Once loaded into the safety mouthpiece it can't slide back out) Lowering the front of your Blowgun until it is level with your target and then fireing. Practice of this procedure will yield better results...

Tips & Tricks by George Fisher
We are proud to present this category.

The following articles, were written by Master blowgun hunter, George Fisher.

(How to Sharpen your Spearhead Darts)
Many people enjoy using the Spear point Darts for hunting and target Practice.
however, they must be kept sharp to really do a good job. The use of a wetstone and a bit of oil can take off any small burrs that develop, or a new point can be made using a small fine file.
The point should only be sharpened to just before the widest point, and no further. If the whole edge is sharpened, damage to your blowgun barrel could result over time. The shaft is held in the hand, and the point rubbed in a circular motion over the surface of the stone. The edge should be held at approx. a 30 deg. angle. Do this for all four edges. A dart that will stick in a foam tray when dropped from 8 inches or so, is considered sharp enough for hunting. Author, George Fisher

(Keeping Paintballs Fresh)
Keeping Paintballs Fresh-Add a small moisture absorbing packet, as found in some shoes, foods, etc to your container of paintballs. George Fisher

(Dented Muzzles)
Dented Muzzles can be repaired in the field by inserting a closed pair of needle nose pliers, and twisting. This will iron out small dents, and burrs. Apply firm pressure while turning. by G.N. Fisher

A small sharpening stone as sold for fish hooks will also put a nice point on your target darts. Just rotate the shaft as you rub it along the length of the groove in the stone.

Always have a pair of plyers handy when shooting. These will allow you to remove darts from hard objects without bending the shaft.

Use bright colored flights on your darts for target practice, to make spotting your shots easier. Save the dark colored flights for Hunting.

What's better 1 or 2 piece Blowgun?

Range & F.P.S.
The Range and the F.P.S. (feet per second) of a blowgun depends on how long the barrel Is and also the caliber. With our EXTREME .50 caliber Teflon treated blowguns expect A 35% increase in Velocity and Penetration. With A flatter Trajectory. This Is a perfect Hunting or Survival Weapon. The longer the barrel the more power and impact it will offer.

Here is an independent test done by Billy McCaskill from Baker LA.:

To stay with the current convention in referring to various blowguns, they will be listed such as 3836 (.38 caliber, 36").  All testing was done with the muzzle of the blowguns within 4" of the first sensor on the chronograph.  Prior to obtaining any usable velocity data, approximately 30 shots were fired just to 'warm up' and to verify the consistency of the chronograph readings and lighting.

All darts used were commercially available target darts with molded plastic cones and 4" wires.  20 shots were fired for each caliber/barrel length, and velocities listed are rounded to the nearest .1 foot/second.  Standard deviations were calculated but won't be included.  All SD's were between 2.58 and 4.49, indicating fairly consistent velocity results within each individual velocity test.  Tube volumes are also listed for all the combinations I tested.

Test 1  3836  Avg. Velocity  110.1 fps   tube volume  4.08 cubic inches
Test 2  3872  Avg. Velocity  135.3 fps   tube volume  8.16 cubic inches

Test 3  4036  Avg. Velocity  115.4 fps   tube volume  4.52 cubic inches
Test 4  4048  Avg. Velocity  123.4 fps   tube volume  6.03 cubic inches
Test 5  4060  Avg. Velocity  134.0 fps   tube volume  7.54 cubic inches
Test 6  4072  Avg. Velocity  138.0 fps   tube volume  9.08 cubic inches

Test 7    5036  Avg. Velocity  123.3 fps   tube volume   7.06 cubic inches
Test 8    5048  Avg. Velocity  132.5 fps   tube volume   9.41 cubic inches
Test 9    5060  Avg. Velocity  143.1 fps   tube volume   11.76 cuic inches
Test 10  5072  Avg. Velocity  150.5 fps   tube volume   14.11 cubic inches

Pro Hunter Darts

We designed the Pro Hunter Dart with the blowgun hunter in mind. It is a heavy steel dart with a flattened spearhead tip. We originally designed it for our .50 caliber blowgun lineup and started with a 5" length and experimented with many lengths and decided that 2" length would work best and it would also be light enough to use with our .40 caliber blowguns.

The .50 calibers are the best choice for utilizing the Pro Hunter Dart. It pushes the dart at a faster speed and thus more impact and knock down power.

Whether using .40 caliber or .50 caliber blowguns we do recommend using the longer barrels for best performance when using the Pro Hunter Darts. We recommend a 36" minimum with the 48" being the best choice.

What's The Best Blowgun for me?

We often get asked what is the best blowgun. Without a doubt the best blowgun we manufacturer is our prized .50 caliber lineup with the CT-Competition configuration barrels. It will out perform any of the calibers and is the best all around performer. It is tough and more durable than the .40 calibers and can be used by everyone. It offers the best bang for the buck as far as performance, material and dart assortment in a single blowgun package. Our best selling blowgun is the .50 caliber Ultra-Pro 4’ model with the CT-Competition configuration barrel. It comes complete with most of the darts available for the .50 caliber blowgun, offered to date.

The .50 caliber blowgun is the best all around caliber and will work from target shooting to hunting, to competition shooting all in one package. It is the most popular and preferred caliber within the experienced blowgun user group.

For the serious blowgun hunter the .62 caliber may fill the bill, if you can handle the bore size. It is of a large size and we only recommend them for the seasoned experienced blowgun user… The .62 caliber utilizes larger and heavier darts and fulfills the needs in a blowgun hunting scenario. It accomplishes this through bore size and the aggressive hunting darts it offers.
